Photographic poem

My body is not mine to will

Verse by Yasra Rizvi · 2026

Four still lifes made in one night, lit by a single warm bulb. One apple stands in for a girl: set out under a barred , shut in a cupboard, bagged in mesh for market, then packed in a trunk beside the shirt and the trophy. The verse is Yasra Rizvi's, translated here line for line.

  1. 01 / 04

My body is not mine to will.

میرا جسم میری مرضی نہیں ہے

  2. 02 / 04

And the harm you do it is not imagined.

اور اس پر ظلم تیرا بھی، فرضی نہیں ہے

  3. 03 / 04

You will hand it to whomever you please —

جس کو چاہو گے، دے دو گے دان میں

  4. 04 / 04

so tell me: what parts me from the luggage?

کوئی فرق ہے کیا مجھ میں، اور سامان میں؟
